Your Wellness Matters Most

The word “wellness” is one that intimidates most of us. After all, what exactly is wellness? Why do we talk about it without knowing the true meaning behind the word? This article aims to make you, the reader, understand what wellness is and how you can apply it in your life.

Wellness

According to the Global Wellness Institute, Wellness is defined as: “the active pursuit of activities, choices and lifestyles that lead to a state of holistic health”.

To understand this notion, we must dissect this phrase and understand the meaning behind it. In a nutshell, wellness is being active, being mobile, making sure you are not idle for hours on end. It is a lifestyle where you choose to be active, to eat healthy for your physical and mental wellness. When you feel good, you do good things. Your daily routine, hobbies, and intentions throughout the day are the core of your wellness. You are defined by what you do every day, and your wellness depends on your day-to-day routine and habits.

Self-Reflection

Your wellness also depends on your mental health. How do you perceive yourself? How do you see yourself? Your self-love is a major aspect of your wellness. That is because wellness is multi-dimensional. As the Global Wellness Institute Indicates, wellness has 6 base dimensions:

  1. Mental: Accepting yourself, challenging yourself, and learning.
  2. Physical: Being in great physical condition through exercise, sleep, and nutrition
  3. Spiritual: Being in tune with your purpose and meaning in life
  4. Emotional: Being in touch with who you are and what you feel.
  5. Social: Interacting with people who bring the best out of you
  6. Environmental: Being part of a healthy environment without any restrictions

While it is true all 6 of these aspects together are related to wellness, it cannot be understated that your mental health is by far the most pivotal of the six. In terms of wellness, looking after yourself is about more than just eating right and exercising. It is about how you define yourself, how positively you think of yourself, and how pivotal do you think you are to your life.

Understanding when to step off the pedal and give yourself a break, and when to accelerate is the most important part of your mental health. Wellness is about tailoring your habits, and your life according to how you feel. Do not be discouraged by what you see on social media, Instagram posts by your favorite influencers only display a snippet of their life for you to see. In your eyes, they live the perfect life, but everyone fights their own demons. You cannot compare yourself to anyone, and you cannot allow yourself to feel because of others, you must feel despite others.

To be Well

Overall, to achieve wellness you must focus on every facet of wellness. However, do not underestimate that your mental health comes first. The one who learns to accept themselves and moves forward is best placed to achieve wellness. For wellness is only tangible when you feel your brightest and brilliant best.
